I am a Rower

Like life, rowing is a team sport. Sure, there are times it can be done "alone", but it takes support and encouragement from members of your inner circle, your outer circle, and from those you don't even know.

We get energy, support, from friends, family, teammates. We get challenged and celebrated by our teammates and coaches. Every day is an opportunity to perform, improve, and win. So, at the end of the day, or at that big race, when we need to be stronger, faster, better than the competition, what is it that will make us different from our competitors?

Every day is an opportunity to perform, improve, and win.

  • With respect to the individual aspect of sport: Think of 2022 as a year to set growth goals rather than one big goal. Although I ‘m not certain the term “New Year’s Resolution” is the perfect term for what I’m describing, it is recognizable as something to invest in, and it is “a promise to do something differently in the new year.”
  • With respect to the team aspect of the sport: Understanding what good chemistry really means and improve it among teammates. And discipline and structure, which actually brings us together, gives us a regular, repetitive beat by which to measure the small improvements we make on a daily basis.

This is what will set us apart from the competition.  Growth in at least one area, for self and team, chemistry, and discipline is what it takes to be the best. We will compete against the very best of the rowing community, and we will do well.  We need to take time to say that out loud.  Write it down so that we see it every day.  Accept that we know this to be true.
